While both professions involve creating beautiful spaces, interior designers typically have more extensive training and expertise in areas such as space planning, building codes, and project management. They may work with architects and contractors to make structural changes to a space, whereas decorators focus more on aesthetics such as selecting furniture and decor.
The cost of hiring an interior designer can vary widely depending on factors such as the scope of the project, the designer's experience and expertise, and the geographic location. Some designers charge an hourly rate, while others may offer a flat fee or percentage-based pricing structure. It's important to discuss fees and payment schedules with your designer upfront to avoid any surprises.
The design process typically begins with an initial consultation, during which the designer will ask questions to get to know your preferences and goals for the space. From there, they will develop a design plan that may include floor plans, color schemes, furniture and decor selections, and other design elements. You will have the opportunity to provide feedback and make revisions throughout the process, and the designer will work with you to ensure that the final result meets your needs and exceeds your expectations.
